Tips: fix common errors
Targeted fixes beat blind speed drills when the same mistakes keep appearing.
Nearby-key confusion
- If you swap nearby keys (i/o, e/r, n/m), isolate them in short word drills.
- Type the problem pair slowly ten times correctly before speeding up.
- Check keyboard angle — wrists twisted sideways increase mis-hits.
Punctuation and spacing
- Sentences mode exposes missing spaces, double spaces, and comma periods.
- Say "space" in your head at word boundaries until spacing is automatic.
- Watch for shifted symbols — Shift timing often lags behind letters.
Doubled letters and word endings
- Words like "address" or "committee" break rhythm — mark them when stats show misses.
- Slow down on the duplicate letter; do not rush through both.
Flow vs. correction during drills
- Finish the line, then read stats — mid-line backspace storms destroy rhythm practice.
- Use the missed-word hint after word lines to queue words for mental review.
- Repeat the same category until accuracy stabilizes before chasing WPM.
When to move on
If accuracy is above your target for several lines in a row, increase speed slightly. If errors spike, drop back 10–15 WPM. That loop is how most steady improvers progress over months.
